• Life Story. ²⁰ John Corrothers lived and died near Derry, Province of Ulster, Ireland. There is only one incident of his life that we are acquainted with. He served as a sailor on the British Fleet under Admiral Boscawen and was taken prisoner by the French near Gibralter, about the year 1759. He was kept in a French prison for years. When he returned home, he came destitute of clothing having only a piece of an old rug which he wrapped around him. He married a Miss Sommerville of Londonderry, Ireland. She was of Danish descent, her ancestors came to the British Iles with William the Conqueror at the time of the Norman Conquest.
